Victor Vasarely
1906-1997
-
Known for the optical effects in his work, Victor Vasarely was originally a graphic designer in Paris for the majority of the 30s and 40s. His grid-like paintings from the 60s are some of his best known works; which contain multiple depth and perspective tricks that play on the viewer’s senses to make the pieces seem as if they are moving. By the 1960s Vasarely developed his own style called “Alphabet Plastique” which consisted of endlessly interchangeable compositional elements.
